Critically Thinking About Honesty In Social Life

It happens every day , we tend to exclude ourselves from responsibility

News hour debates criticize notorious politicians like anything live. We tend to drive moral satisfaction on the nagging questions asked by the news anchors. As Indians, we literally criticize politicians, bureaucrats, spiritual gurus, sports persons etc,. for their dishonesty in social life. But, do we only judge others and leave our own selves from any scrutiny?

Few dishonest things we, as common people, commit in our everyday lives

I come across several friends who watch pirated versions of movies, who do not show any sign of remorse for what they are doing.  Is it not dishonesty to not pay for the product we consume? Then isn't it the property of the film producer who spends millions to produce the film. As individuals, we are happy to watch pirated versions of movies.

Is it not morally wrong to watch pornographic videos, since it demeans the people who are playing the roles? After all, they are people like us who have life and sense. How many of us did not watch such videos, is it anyway honesty?

We all agree that consuming alcohol is bad for one's own self and his family. But why do most people consume in large scale? Is it morally acceptable to let the person live by his impulses?

If we ourselves cant remain honest in our private lives, how can the politicians, bureaucrats, and others who share the same social background can conduct themselves honestly?

What is honesty?

It is time for revisiting the meaning of social honesty and self honesty. Identify who is responsible for maintaining honesty. Who can remain honest. And on what social conditions, honest living becomes conducive.

Social-Honesty
A wife trusts her husband that he will not develop romantic relationships outside the marriage. As long as, the husband keeps his wife's faith he remains honest to his wife.
A disciple trusts his spiritual guru that he would keep the secrets and offer a spiritual solution. As long as, the guru keeps his disciple's faith he remains honest to his disciple.
A consumer expects the seller to sell only good quality product worth of his hard earned money. As long as, the seller provides only quality products he remains honest to his customers. Hence, we can define honesty in social relations, as the will to maintain the faith of people who trust.

Self-Honesty
We all aspire to achieve something great in our lives. When we choose what goal to pursue in life, if we admit what is not our core strength as a weakness, we are self-honest. Self-honesty is being connected with the real self.

Loss of credibility is Loss of prosperity

People who loose their social credibility are in the path of gradual decline. See the state of several spiritual gurus who have lost their credibility, they lost their glory and nobody ever regained again the same.

Are you responsible for maintaining honesty?

A society is a collective construction. We all should take our individual responsibility to maintain the welfare of what we are a part and what we have helped creating. If individuals become dishonest, division and departure of relations follow. So, we all are responsible for maintaining the social honesty.

If I will get help, I will also definitely help others

If people are ensured that they can accomplish their dreams with the support of others by honest means, why they would resort themselves to a self-destructive dishonesty? We as individuals should have faith in ourselves as well as others. We as individuals should generously support other person's good intentions. Simply speaking, take care of others success, you will also be taken care.

Mercy is the source of honesty

Materialistic thinking is merciless. It derives us to compete among ourselves instead of cooperating. It breeds jealous rather than love.  But all honest people are merciful people who can sympathize with other person's pain as their own. Honest people are the most satisfied and most happy and most respected people. We are living in a competitive materialistic world. To expect honesty is to denounce our greed for pleasure. Be honest. Be happy. And make all happy!!!!
